Q: Tell us about your career path. How did you start, and how did you get to where you are now?

Janine: I first started entry-level SDR work in January 2021. Prior to joining Treasure Data, I worked in a lab out of my university at UC Santa Cruz. I decided it was time for a change. I think I was the only person with no sales background when I started, and I did well, so they promoted me to the senior SDR to work on more strategic accounts with their senior ADR.

As our team expanded with the growth of Treasure Data, there was an opening for me to become a manager, and I took it in a heartbeat. I raised my hand for it, and now I’m an ADR manager here.

Q: Describe your current role now. What does your day-to-day look like?

Thank you for subscribing to our blog!

Janine: I’m an ADR manager for everyone in the account development network. I run the operations, so I manage all the tools in the backend. I make sure Salesforce is running for us. I make sure all of our email tools are running well for our teams. I do all the troubleshooting with our support, and I’m the administrator for all of our tools.

From an enablement standpoint, I make sure that all the new hires are up and running during their onboarding period. I make sure they have everything they need, and I’m working in the background to make that process a little better. With every new hire, I’m learning with them to help their experience become better and make sure they know exactly what Treasure Data is and have all their questions answered. My entire process is just learning and absorbing everything that I can.

Q; What do you like the most about your role?

Janine: My favorite part about being a sales operations and enablement manager has to be that my role wasn’t previously defined at Treasure Data. I’m learning as much as I possibly can in this role and I’m able to take on every responsibility in a good way and learn everything that I can.

Q: What’s different about being in sales at Treasure Data?

Janine: There’s more opportunity to look at other departments and take on new projects at Treasure Data. You have your individual contributor task day to day, but you also have time and openness within the company to reach out to other people on other teams. You have the ability to do virtual meetups with coworkers, wherever they are, and it’s encouraged. It all has to do with being at a company that’s high growth and that nurtures internal growth. You don’t see that at a lot of companies these days.

Q: What’s the culture like at Treasure Data?

Janine: The culture here is very encouraging, very open, and transparent. I have a casual conversation with my boss once a week. I have casual conversations with my coworkers every other day, and they encourage that team-building aspect of everything.

Q: How have you stayed connected with your team, and how do you work together as a remote team?

Janine: Treasure Data has been entirely remote since I started. From a team-wide perspective, we have tools like Slack so that you can keep in touch with everyone on your team. We have a happy hour every other week. My boss lives 40 minutes away from me, so she and I get lunch occasionally. I’ve got coworkers who are not even in sales, but I know they live near me, and I’m like, Hey, do you want to grab a coffee? They’re like, absolutely would love to see what you’re doing at Treasure Data. The company does well to keep us all in touch, with company-wide events every now and again. So working from home, we are all still connected.

Q: Do you have any advice for people looking to pursue this career path or grow their career?

Janine: My biggest advice for anyone looking into sales is to do it. I come from a background that has nothing to do with sales. I came into Treasure Data, and they’ve nurtured every growth possibility I’ve had so far. They nurtured every educational opportunity. My background was in a lab, and they gave me a chance even though I didn’t have a technical background. And through that, I go out, and I take all the opportunities I can.
